O uso do material informativo e promocional dos fitofármacos

Abstract

O presente trabalho propõe-se investigar a utilização que é dada pelo agricultor português à informação contida nos rótulos dos fitofármacos, elaborados pelas empresas fitofarmacêuticas e aprovados pela autoridade nacional fitossanitária, no âmbito da homologação desses produtos. Adicionalmente, procura-se perceber como o agricultor utiliza outros materiais informativos e promocionais referentes a estes produtos, utilizados na proteção fitossanitária das culturas; nomeadamente, os panfletos de promoção e as fichas de dados de segurança elaborados pelas empresas, bem como as circulares de avisos agrícolas, da responsabilidade do ministério que tutela o setor da agricultura. Em termos gerais, na fase de revisão de literatura é apresentado o estado atual do setor agrícola na economia portuguesa e na região de Ovar e caracterizado o produtor agrícola nacional. São clarificados os benefícios dos fitofármacos, enquanto fatores de produção, e os inconvenientes toxicológicos que podem advir para as pessoas e outros seres vivos e para o ambiente, resultantes do seu uso inadequado. Neste âmbito, é explicada a importância da leitura do rótulo e de outros materiais informativos e promocionais dos fitofármacos, no sentido de uma proteção fitossanitária segura. Relativamente ao trabalho desenvolvido na fase de campo, através de questionários, são apuradas e apresentadas informações importantes sobre as práticas correntes e opiniões das empresas fitofarmacêuticas quanto aos referidos materiais. Através de entrevistas realizadas a agricultores são recolhidas informaçõeschave para dar resposta ao objetivo do estudo. A última fase comporta a contraposição da totalidade dos dados obtidos e estes são confrontados com as respostas a um questionário à entidade reguladora do setor fitofarmacêutico. Com este trabalho de investigação pretendemos reunir conclusões que possam ser tidas em consideração pelas Organizações do setor fitofarmacêutico, no sentido de poder ser feita uma reflexão sobre a eficácia da comunicação existente no âmbito da aplicação de fitofármacos.

This study proposes to investigate how Portuguese farmers use the information contained on the labels of chemical fertilisers, insecticides and herbicides . The labels are prepared by Portuguese pesticide producing companies and aproved by the national plant protection authority. We also aim to understand how farmers use other informational and promotional materials about the products used in the chemical protection of crops, including promotional leaflets and safety data sheets, prepared by the companies, as well as the notifications, prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture. In general, the literature review presents the current state of the agriculture sector in Portuguese economy and, more specifically, in the Ovar region. It also refines the characterization of the Portuguese farmer, using a small number of farmers in Ovar as a sample. We discuss the benefits of pesticides as production facilitators, as well as the toxicological harm that can come to living beings and the environment as a result of their misuse. In this context, we explain the importance of reading the labels and other informational and promotional materials of these chemical aids. The field work consists of important information obtained about the current practices and opinions of the companies, regarding these chemical fertilisers, insecticides and herbicides, which were gathered through questionnaires. Through interviews with farmers, we were able to collect some key information to arrive at the findings of this dissertation. The last phase involves the confrontation and discussion of all the data obtained and its subsequent comparison with the results of a questionnaire applied to the authority that regulates chemical fertilisers, insecticides and herbicides. With this work we intend to bring together reasearch findings that can be taken into consideration by Organizations of the plant protection sector, in adjusting communication practices regarding the use of chemical fertilisers, insecticides and herbicides by farmers.
