Description
In this session, participants will learn more about how In Your Shoes (IYS), a performance-based dialogue methodology created by the Laboratory for Global Performance and Politics, can be applied across the curriculum. In the IYS process, participants have deep, open conversations around a given topic and then perform one another’s perspectives. Through this exchange, participants practice close listening and embodiment as a way to understand the perspectives of another. Session participants will practice IYS exercises rooted in call-and-response, theater, and movement techniques. From here, we will discuss how IYS has been applied in different contexts in the last academic year, including the US-China dialogue project, Countering Polarization, and IYS in Appalachia. Lastly, we will share ways for other faculty, staff, and students to get involved with future IYS projects. This session is open to anyone interested in learning more about the IYS experience.
