Domestic food waste (RDA) due to its biodegradable, heterogeneous nature, with high moisture content is difficult to handle, its management is difficult since they generate annoying and leached odor gases (liquid released) that pollutes the environment. Its collection, storage and treatment worsens when mixed with other types of waste.
RDAs contribute almost half of municipal waste, so they require special attention in their management. They are candidates to elaborate with them compositions of excellent quality by not mixing with other residues, by performing a beneficiary prior treatment reducing annoying odors in the initial stages of the process.
The present work intends to demonstrate that the RDAs separated and treated at the site with Effective Microorganisms EM1® produce the gas-generating odor. When mixed with zeolite, it modifies its toxicity, facilitates its handling by retaining excess moisture and improves the chemical physical characteristics of the RDA for its viability in agricultural use.
Due to cultural aspects and its biodegradability, having RDA at home only for a few days is the common characteristic. To accumulate at home a RDA of 15 to 30 days requires a tank with a tight lid because it is a fermentation process that generates few odors, with a double bottom to capture fluids that are released. The treatment is by inoculation each time a RDA is discarded; using 50 grams of Bokashi EM1® each time 500 grams of RDA are deposited was the best agronomic response. The RDAs have a low C / N ratio so it is necessary to contain the amounts of ammonium generated as well as the excess humidity,
natural zeolite was used to obtain the best results at a ratio of 1: 1 by weight.
