cera, aceites esenciales y polen.
[eng] Propolis, is a product of apicultural origin. It is mainly composed of resin, wax,
essential oils and pollen. In recent years, its consumption has increased due to its health
benefits: anti-inflammatory, antifungal, anti-carcinogenic, etc. The purpose of this trial is to
stablish the antifungal properties of in women with recurrent vaginal candidiasis problems.
The sample population will be the women, between 18 and 60 years old, enrolled in the
selected health centers ( Barrio del Carmen Health Center, Floridablanca Health Center,
Murcia Health Center Infante Juan Manuel, and Vistabella Health Center, located in Murcia)
who voluntarily decide to participate. A clinical trial will be carried out, with a recruitment
period between February and May 2019. Three intervention groups with different treatments
will be established: oral administration of placebo, oral propolis supplementation of 10 ml
(once a day, for seven days), and vaginal application of a solution of 5% propolis for seven
days. An initial cytology will be performed, which will be repeated at the end of the
treatment. The follow-up will be carried out on a monthly basis during six consecutive months
by their family doctor. The patients will deliver the data record to their doctor during each of
these visit. The analysis of the data will be carried out through a descriptive analysis,
followed by a bivariate analysis with the purpose of establishing the relationship between
dependent variables (symptoms, remission of candidiasis) and independent variables
(different treatments). Other secondary variables will be studied, such as: smoker and non
smoker women, the use of oral contraceptives or another type of hormonal contraception
mechanisms (contraceptive ring, etc.) and maternity. The results obtained aim to offer an
alternative treatment to vaginal candidiasis having as main component the use of propolis.
