In this chapter, the model theoretic semantics of logic programming is presented, which is based on interpretations and models, with the ultimate goal of studying the semantics of definite programs. Additionally, the fixed point semantics and the immediate consequence operator are discussed, as well as the operational semantics through the application of an inference rule, the SLD-resolution.
