Abstract: |
The chapter introduces the reader to the basic terminology of anatomy and histology of the human skeleton. It is a concise anatomical atlas of the human skeleton, intending to use detailed charts to document anatomical terminology. At the same time, reference is made to the biology of bone tissue and the basic concepts of histology and microscopy are described. Emphasis is also placed on the recognition and identification of damaged and poorly preserved osteological material. To aid in understanding the instructional content, the chapter contains extensive photographic and graphic material that shows both macroscopic and microscopic depictions of bones.
