Abstract: |
This chapter addresses the difficulties that students, primarily in the early grades of elementary school, face in mathematics. It includes a discussion on the definition of these difficulties as well as the definition of dyscalculia. Extensive lists of characteristics by age group are provided, with a particular emphasis on addressing these difficulties. The recommendations for supporting students in overcoming their challenges are based on strategies and best practices proposed by international literature as effective. It is important to note that utilizing research findings from the international literature is more straightforward in mathematics than in reading, as language constraints are absent, given that the mathematical code is common across Western countries. Finally, the chapter includes a large number of sample worksheets and activities, as well as websites that offer extensive collections of instructional material, mathematical problems, and exercises.
