Abstract

Conversion of one type of measurement to another is a frequently occurring task of fisheries biologists. Although conversion equations can be used to accomplish this task, more time and effort are required than in using conversion tables. Tables presented here provide conversions for measurements of several morphological parameters for red drum (Sciaenops ocellata), spotted seatrout (Cynoscion nebulosus), black drum (Pogonias cromis), southern flounder (Paralichthys lethostigma) and sheepshead (Archosargus probatocephalus). The tables were developed from equations provided by Harrington et al. (1979). Two types of tables are presented: 1) Corresponding standard lengths and whole weights are presented for total lengths in both English and Metric units (Table 1-5) and 2) Corresponding whole weights are presented for dressed weights in both English and metric units (Table 6-10).
