Abstract

The Korea Institute of Criminology conducted the survey to examine in detail the state of victimization from economic crimes to offer preventive measures for economic crimes threatening the foundation of people’s livelihoods. The survey deals with cases of victimization from crimes threatening people’s livelihoods such as financial fraud, real-estate fraud, employment and entrepreneurial fraud, multilevel marketing fraud, organized crime and extortion, entertainment and fraudulent gambling, corrupt private education and admissions practices, and illegal food and drugs and medical practices.
The main survey contents include number of times victimization has occurred and size of damages from each type of crime, whether the crime was reported at the time of victimization and the agency to which the crime was reported to as well as reason for not reporting, level of satisfaction with processing of report and reason for dissatisfaction, severity of damages per type of crime, awareness of government measures and channel of obtaining such information, awareness of reporting and counseling agencies, effects of government measures in eradicating crime, need for government measures for each type of crime, and the need for integrating law enforcement agencies.
