Assessing the impact of the construction sector on the increasing temperature in Wakiso district between 2000 and 2020.
Abstract
Variations in the rate of construction activities directly impact temperature increase. The present study investigated the impacts the impact of the construction sector on the increasing temperature in Wakiso district between 2000 and 2020. The study found out how Wakiso district has developed in terms of construction in between 2000 and 2020. The study investigated how temperatures have been changing in Wakiso district between 2000 and 2020. The research also assessed the environmental and socio-economic impacts of temperature increase in Wakiso District. A cross-sectional design was employed where both qualitative and quantitative methods were used in the study. Landsat images for Operational Land Imager (OLI) and Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+) were downloaded for the years 2001, and 2022. The study area was classified using Maximum Likelihood Supervised classification to create one class of construction sector. The temperature change of the study area was obtained using temperature data obtained from Climate Change Knowledge Portal and it was visualized using graphs to show the trend. Future studies should investigate the relationship between construction activities and temperature change in Wakiso district.
