The primary intent of this paper is to describe the Office of Interstate Compact with Regard to Services it provides to the Probation Division of the Department of Offender Rehabilitation. The analysis involves the problems the writer has encountered since being employed by the department. Therefore, many of the insights into the problems discussed will be of first hand nature. With the ever increasing negative effect the economy is having on our society, there comes the inevitable increase in the crime statistics. More people are receiving probated cases due to the overcrowding conditions of prisons. Along with this increase comes the need to be mobile and a great number of probationers are finding it necessary to relocate to other areas of the country. Therefore, the effective management of the Interstate Compact Office is needed in order to provide smoother transfers from one state to another. The main sources of information were drawn from the writer's personal experiences, interviews with relevant personnel and a review of a variety of published information, books and department manuals.
