This study examined the basic principles of black lesbian feminism, a political movement which upholds the philosophies of black feminist theory and lesbian feminism. A literature review was presented which examined the concepts of black lesbian feminist theory. Major black feminists and lesbian women were discussed. A qualitative study was conducted. Black women, lesbian and non-lesbian identified, were interviewed to ascertain general views of black women regarding black lesbian feminism. The researcher found that the participants approved of the key elements of black lesbian feminism but were uncomfortable with the words feminism and lesbian and any political movement which used the two words. The conclusions suggest that black lesbian feminism might be a viable political movement for black women, however the terms lesbian and feminism should be alleviated in order to attract black women participants.
