Abstract

The studies for refunctioning the functional loss of people whose qualities of lives have decreased and who have become bedbound after spinal cord trauma, have been increasing every day. The studies about neuroregeneration are significantly important among these studies. We have studied neurogenerative and neuroprotective effects of riluzole on 32 rats in 8 groups in our study. In our study, we have wanted to emphasize the clinical changing, that we haven't come across in the previous studies, in the groups that were given drugs 48, 36, and 24 hours ago before the trauma. We haven't observed any statistically significant changing in the 2 weeks' results of riluzole in our experimental animal study. However, we have obtained the values that show significant functional recovery especially in the group that were given riluzole 48 hours ago before trauma. These findings have given us scientific remarks about bringing the functional loss to the minimum level and bringing the recoveries to the maximum level with riluzole that is given before spinal cord tumor surgery. Also they have enlightened us about that the studies in this field will bring much more positive results.
