Abstract/Description:
The crowd is assembled in front of 326 Shawmut Ave, the building that will become the Residencia Betances. Mayor Flynn, Clara Garcia, and others have been addressing the crowd, presumably about the project. Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción received funding from the City of Boston to rehabilitate the vacant building into seven staffed SRO units for the chronically mentally ill and four units for low income persons. The project was part of Flynn's "Room for More" campaign to preserve and create 1,000 units of SRO housing. The pie chart on the steps refers to this campaign.
Acquisition:
Donated by Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción.
Funding:
This project was partially funded with federal assistance from the Institute of Museum and Library Services and administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
