This paper presents an approach for electromagnetic shielding by absorption based on polycarbonate films containing oriented carbon nanotubes. Films with and without in plane CNT orientation were obtained by squeezing nanocomposites in the melt. The results reveal that the thick non-oriented and thin oriented nanocomposites have comparable highest electromagnetic absorption around 50% over a broad microwave frequency range but achieved this performance at different CNT concentration, i.e. 1 and 3wt% for thin and thick samples respectively. Thanks to the reduced thickness, the oriented composites contain a comparable weight of CNT per unit area but they are significantly lighter and flexible.
