The present thesis is devoted to the study of the subject matter of martyrdom in the book of the Apocalypse. This theme has a transverse attribute in this last NT writing. Therefore, the study of it involves going through the entire work. In fact, seven texts that are scattered throughout the book are analyzed in this research (Ap 1,1-3; 1,4-8; 2,12-17; 6,9-11; 11,1-13; 12.10-12; 20.4). It is worth noting that, given its transverse nature, the study of martyrdom in the Apocalypse requires tackling the main questions regarding the interpretation of this biblical book. The subject under study is approached from an exegetical-theological perspective. This perspective allows us to examine, together, three fundamental elements. Firstly, the phenomenon of persecution and martyrdom in times of the Apocalypse; secondly, the philological and semantic issue related to the "martyrial" lexicon of the Apocalypse; thirdly, the question of the exegetical-theological meaning of the martyrdom experience in this book. The study of these questions is preceded by the analysis of the cultural and religious background of the biblical concept of martyrdom, especially of the martyrial perspective developed in the Apocalypse. Approaching to all these points, the contributions made by historical-critical research have been mainly used. However, it should be noted that the contributions from other biblical approaches have also been considered.
