Cavalieri, Marco
[UCL]
This contribution aims to offer a contextual view of the archaeo logical research at the late antique Villa of Aiano (San Gimignano, Siena). The following pages will summarize topo graphical, toponymic, archaeo logical, and historio graphical data to identify the use and occupation of the villa during its evolution from a domestic building to a centre of production. Moreover, its relationships with the main and secondary road networks will be analysed to explain the presence of such a monumental villa in a territory mistakenly considered uninhabited between the mid-Imperial period and Late Antiquity.
