Interest in ancient metrology began in the 19th century. Archaeological excavations have brought to light numerous weights, most often isolated. In the Iberian Peninsula, metrological work has focused since the 1930s on weights from the Iberian culture (6th century - 1st century BC). To date, few studies have been carried out on Roman and Byzantine weights. We have therefore attempted to fill this gap by carrying out a survey and a description of the weights found in these regions during the periods under consideration. Our corpus, the first attempt at a global study, includes 582 objects. In particular, we focus on the economy of the Iberian Peninsula, especially on the use of weights and measures and the magistrates in charge of their control, in order to shed light on the mechanisms of adoption of Roman and then Byzantine metrological systems and the phenomena of Romanisation that took place. This thesis was conducted within the framework of the Pondera Online project (https://pondera.uclouvain.be/).
