The paper aims to reconstruct the political factions in Volterra during the first century BC civil wars. The goal is to understand better the dynamics of local powers and the elites’ relations with Rome. Identifying political factions and family strategies, as well as analysing the changing perception of local identities, could be crucial to investigating ancient landscapes. The first part of the contribution focuses on the civil wars between Marius and Sulla; in the second part, new data dealing with Volterran political factions in the civil wars between Caesar and Pompey are presented.
