| 内容記述 | Professor Mizuta has been the predecessor and a kind of mentor for me to begin and continue researches in the field of history of social thought. I have started my carrier as a student of Thomas Hobbes, and then moved to the study on the Scottish Enlightenment, especially on David Hume, Lord Kames, and John Millar. During over these 30 years I have had a laborious research life relying on the great work done by Professor Mizuta. In 1970s the study of the Scottish Enlightenment has started simultaneously in Anglo-America and in Japan. Since then Professor Mizuta has been a leader in this field in the world. It is natural for younger generations to get suggestions and instructions from their elders, and in my case the huge work of Prof. Mizuta has been the most important intellectual source, though I learned much from such scholars as John Pocock and Kobayashi Noboru. I have made some efforts for collecting those books suggested from Mizuta Library which I thought would be useful for my study, especially books relating to the Scottish Enlightenment and the 18th century republicanism. Professor Mizuta has edited and translated many academic books and I have imitated him to some extent in the same efforts. Thus I cannot help thinking of my poor study without the work of Prof. Mizuta. | |||||
