<論説>ロンドン新冐險商人組合の設立 : 所謂「オールダーマン・コケインの企畫」なる事件について

Abstract

新冐險商人組合が從來の冐險商人組合に代つて設立された事情をいくつかの觀點から考察してみたのである。この新組合の設立、舊組合の廢止と云う問題は英國經濟史上普通にオールダーマン・コケインの企畫と云う名で呼ばれていて有名な事件ではあるけれども、いつも正面にすえられず他の主題をあつかう際傍系的に論じられているにすぎないようなので、一度正面にすえて考察してみたいと思つたのである。色々な觀點からながめてみると、當時のイギリスに於ける政治上、經濟上、社會上の重要な現象が實はこの新冐險商人組合と設立という一つの焦點へ向かつているようにさえ受取られるのである。

The author considers, from various angles, the situation which led to the establishment of the King's Merchant Adventurers of the New Trade of London in 'place of the Company of Merchant Adventurers. In spite o the fact that this so-called "Alderman Cockeyne's Project, " as is generally known, is a very significant event in the history of the England of that time, it has been histherto treated rather as a side issue. The author, who takes this event as his main theme here, thinks that this event seems so important that other contemporary events of importance, political, economic and social, had converged on it.
