Læreplanen gjelder for hele grunnopplæring.
In this task, I have attempted to answer how Norwegian schools can work against the reproduction of social inequality. Inequality being specifically with regard to class, gender, and ethnicity. I have focused on two aspects of the education system: bildung (formation) and human capital. I have used Paulo Freire’s critical pedagogy, bell hooks’ development of Freire’s perspective, as well as Bourdieu’s theories. These theories have been understood within a Norwegian context. I have looked at different reforms in Norwegian education history as well as statistics about social inequality and at the end, looked at the upper part of the curriculum. The curriculum is for the entire primary and secondary education.
The research question has been answered by doing a document analysis of the upper part of the curriculum by applying these theories. I have concluded by emphasizing several solutions. Among several of them, I have mentioned: problem posing, awareness of the domination culture in the teaching community, a more pluralistic curriculum, support to boys and portfolio assessment. These will have a positive effect against the reproduction of inequality.
