Pop-Machina H2020 project aims to explore the potentials for local circular economies through collaborative production in seven pilot cities. This endeavour requires initiating a sustainable maker symbiosis, through activating links among various maker ecosystem actors. This paper provides a snapshot of the initial steps of this, i.e. the deployment of a series of online participatory design tools engaging citizens and other maker ecosystem actors to collaboratively design pilot activities through the case of Istanbul, the largest pilot city of the project. Local Future Stories was developed for İstanbul citizens to envision the future everyday life in a circular neighbourhood and revealed shared city and neighbourhood values in terms of collaborative production and local circular economies. İstanbul Microsite was developed to introduce overall project goals, İstanbul priorities and Local Future Stories to maker ecosystem actors, and to invite them to share pilot activity ideas as part of the pilot. These initial activity ideas were then further developed through online co-design workshops with various maker ecosystem actors, identifying potentially interested stakeholders, drawing links among them and among activity proposals, and developing the steps for each activity from conception to finalization. This paper presents the major outcomes of the tools used and the process while discussing how they can activate links among maker ecosystem actors to initiate maker symbiosis.

Location–routing and synchronization problems in city logistics
Farham, Mohammad Saleh; Süral, Haldun; Department of Industrial Engineering (2020)
City logistics aims to improve urban freight transportation by considering the costs and benefits of public and private sectors, consolidating segmented freight shipments, and integrating the individual actors in a collaborative environment. This thesis studies network design problems in city logistics systems to address managerial challenges in urban freight transportation. We consider two network design schemes, namely the one and the two-echelon distribution networks, to formulate strategic and tactical ...
Sustainability of urban regeneration in Turkey: Assessing the performance of the North Ankara Urban Regeneration Project
Korkmaz, Cansu; Balaban, Osman (Elsevier BV, 2020-01-01)
The increasing environmental footprints of cities necessitated the integration sustainability principles into urban planning and development frameworks. The growing attention on urban sustainability also influenced the policy and the practice of urban regeneration. The quest for new methods for regenerating existing urban quarters in sustainable manners resulted in the concept of sustainable urban regeneration. The concept aims to develop urban regeneration projects in line with the three key pillars of sus...
Sustained, Efficient Production of Required Information and Services within Europe is our only justification (SEPRISE)
Beşiktepe, Şükrü(2007-4)
The overall objective of the project is to discern and enable methods of increasing, improving and coordinating production of European scale Operational Ocean Forecasting Products and Services. This will be achieved by reviewing and then ensuring that, as far as possible, the findings and experience gained from the so-called Operational Forecasting Cluster of Projects funded under MAST III and FP-5, and other relevant sources, are pulled through into sustained, efficient operational oceanographic services. ...
Conceptual design of a stealth unmanned combat aerial vehicle with multidisciplinary design optimization
Çakın, Uğur; Alemdaroğlu, Hüseyin Nafiz; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2018)
The present study aims to develop a methodology for multi-disciplinary design optimization (MDO) of an unmanned combat aerial vehicle. At the current stage of optimization study, three disciplines are considered, which are aerodynamics, structural weight and radar cross section (RCS) signature. As objective functions, maximum range and minimum RCS signature are employed. To generate pareto-optimal solutions, multi-objective particle swarm optimization (MOPSO) function of MATLAB® is performed. To get aerodyn...
Constructing collaborative processes through experiential learning: Participatory planning in Kaymakli, Turkey
Ataöv Demirkan, Anlı (Elsevier BV, 2009-10-01)
Prevalent discussions in urban planning focus on collaboration. However, they do not explain the underlying processes that allow collaborative work. This paper argues that experiential learning processes can help construct and maintain collaborative platforms in urban planning. To show this, the paper uses the participatory planning of Kaymakli, a small agricultural and touristic town in the internationally well-known cultural landscape, the Cappadoccia region. This entails the second stage of a two-year lo...
