Precast concrete panel reinforced infill walls for seismic strengthening of reinforced concrete framed structures
Baran, Mehmet; Tankut, Ali Tuğrul; Department of Civil Engineering (2005)
The importance of seismic rehabilitation became evident with 1992 Erzincan Earthquake, after which a large number of reinforced concrete buildings damaged in recent earthquakes required strengthening as well as repair. In the studies related to rehabilitation, it has been realized that inadequate lateral stiffness is one of the major causes of damage in reinforced concrete buildings. Recently, economical, structurally effective and practically applicable seismic retrofitting techniques are being developed i...

Retrofit of Non-Ductile RC Frames with Precast Concrete (PC) Wall Panels
BARAN, MEHMET; Tankut, Tugrul (2011-12-01)
An economic, structurally effective and practically applicable strengthening method had been developed for reinforced concrete (RC) framed buildings. This study presents the test results on strengthening of deficient RC frames by using high strength precast concrete (PC) panels. The idea of the method is to convert the existing hollow brick infill wall into a load carrying system by bonding PC panels on to the plastered hollow brick infills. For this purpose, six (two reference and four strengthened) one-th...
Hybrid fiber reinforced self-compacting concrete with a high-volume coarse fly ash
Sahmaran, Mustafa; Yaman, İsmail Özgür (Elsevier BV, 2007-01-01)
This paper presents a study on the fresh and mechanical properties of a fiber reinforced self-compacting concrete incorporating high-volume fly ash that does not meet the fineness requirements of ASTM C 618. A polycarboxylic-based superplasticizer was used in combination with a viscosity modifying admixture. In mixtures containing fly ash, 50% of cement by weight was replaced with fly ash. Two different types of steel fibers were used in combination, keeping the total fiber content constant at 60 kg/m(3). S...
