In this study, MNPs were synthesized, coated with biocompatible polyethylene glycol (PEG) and conjugated with folic acid. Crystal and chemical structures, shape, size and magnetic properties of synthesized nanoparticles were characterized. Agglomeration tendency of naked nanoparticles were prevented by oleic acid addition during the synthesis. All synthesized MNPs have been found to exhibit superparamagnetic behavior at 23 degrees C and 37 degrees C. Cytotoxic effects of MNPs were investigated on Doxorubicin, Zoledronic acid and Paclitaxel resistant MCF-7 breast cancer cell lines. The synthesized nanoparticles have been found to be suitable for drug targeting in terms of size, shape, magnetic and cytotoxic properties.

Asymmetric aldol addition of alpha-azido ketones to ethyl pyruvate mediated by a cinchona-based bifunctional urea catalyst
Okumus, Seda; Tanyeli, Cihangir; Demir, Ayhan Sıtkı (Elsevier BV, 2014-07-30)
The first asymmetric synthesis of ethyl 4-aryl-3-azido-2-hydroxy-2-methyl-4-oxobutanoates via a cinchona organocatalyst induced aldol addition of alpha-azido ketones to ethyl pyruvate has been developed. The coupling reaction under optimized conditions was carried out to furnish tetrafunctionalized synthons with enantioselectivities of up to 91:9 and enriched diastereoselectivities of up to 95:5 (syn:anti).
Speciation of Selenium in Supplements by High Performance Liquid Chromatography-Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry
BAKIRDERE, Sezgin; Volkan, Mürvet; Ataman, Osman Yavuz (2015-06-13)
Anion and cation exchange high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) combined with inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) were used for speciation of selenium in supplements. All the parameters in the extraction, separation, and determination procedures were optimized. Recovery studies for the selenium species from the anion and cation exchange columns were performed and there were no analyte losses. Limits of detection for selenium(IV), selenium(VI), Se in selenomethionine, and Se in sele...
Comparison of microwave and ultrasound-assisted extraction techniques for leaching of phenolic compounds from nettle
Ince, Alev Emine; Şahin, Serpil; Şümnü, Servet Gülüm (2014-10-01)
In this study, extraction of phenolic compounds from nettle by microwave and ultrasound was studied. In both microwave and ultrasound-assisted extractions, effects of extraction time (5-20 min for microwave; 5-30 min for ultrasound) and solid to solvent ratio (1:10, 1:20, and 1:30 g/mL) on total phenolic content (TPC) were investigated. Effects of different powers (50 % and 80 %) were also studied for ultrasound-assisted extraction. In microwave-assisted extraction, the optimum TPC of the extracts (24.64 +/...
Polyethylene oxide-hydroxyapatite composite and microporous polyethylene oxide-polymethacrylic acid polymer complex preparation and characterization
Banat, Raid M I; Tinçer, Teoman; Department of Chemistry (2002)
The first part of this study covers the crosslinking of polyethylene oxide (PEO) and its composite with calcium hydroxyapatite (HA) and their mechanical, swelling and morphological properties. Sheets of neat PEO (two different molecular weights) and composites of PEO-HA were prepared by compression molding. The composites and PEO thick sheets were crosslinked with exposure of UV- irradiation in presence of acetophenone (AP) for different periods of time. This simple method of crosslinking, UV-irradiation in...
Quantitative expression analysis of the genes potentially involved in clavulanic acid overproduction in streptomyces clavuligerus
Aktaş, Caner; Özcengiz, Gülay; Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (2018)
Streptomyces clavuligerus is the producer of the medically important β-lactam antibiotics, including cephamycin C (CC) and the potent β-lactamase inhibitor clavulanic acid. (CA). We have already undertaken an extensive comparative proteomic analysis by using both 2-DE-MALDI-MS and GeLC-MS approaches between an industrial CA overproducer, namely DEPA and the reference strain NRRL3585. In this context, we documented several differentially expressed (over- and under-represented) proteins accounting for high CA...
