Degradation of chlorinated compounds by Penicillium camemberti in batch and up-flow column reactors
Taseli, BK; Gökçay, Celal Ferdi (Elsevier BV, 2005-02-01)
A Penicillium camemberti strain isolated in this laboratory was studied for its ability to degrade chlorinated compounds including pentachlorophenol (PCP), 2-chlorophenol and trichloroacetic acid. The batch experiments were conducted in shake flasks using PCP as co-substrate resulting in around 56% PCP removal by the fungus. Experiments in shake flasks not containing acetate but Tween 80, produced 86% of PCP and 53% of 2-chlorophenol removals in 21 days. PCP was also fed to a column reactor with an adsorbab...
Recovery enhancement of magnetite fines in magnetic separation
Arol, Ali İhsan (2004-01-23)
Low intensity wet magnetic separation is not very effective for particles less than 10 mum. The magnitude of the fluid drag force exceeds the magnetic force exerted on such particles. Thus, fine magnetic particles are usually not picked up effectively by magnetic separators, resulting in the loss of valuable minerals. Magnetic separation applied to ultrafine magnetite particles after size enlargement by polymer flocculation were found to be effective in reducing loss of fine magnetite particles.

Degradation of Poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) Obtained by Radiation in Aqueous Solution
Varguen, Elif; Usanmaz, Ali (Informa UK Limited, 2010-01-01)
The degradation of poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate), PHEMA obtained by -radiation induced polymerization of HEMA in aqueous solution, was studied. The polymer was a gel type and insoluble in common organic solvents. The DSC thermogram of the polymer gave a Tg value at 88.2 degrees C and an endothermic peak showed further polymerization or crosslinking at 110-160 degrees C. The degradation observed in TGA was a depolymerization type. However, the FT-IR of TGA fragments showed no monomer, which was degraded fu...
