Thermal gravimetric analyses (TGA) were used to examine the thermal decomposition kinetics of ASC whetlerite, a copper-chromium-silver impregnated activated charcoal. In the low temperature region (< 490 K) the proposed decomposition reaction involves the reduction of the copper chromate species into a copper chromite form accompanied by the oxidation of the carbon support to carbon dioxide. The first order decomposition rate constant was determined to be kl = 1.22 × 103exp(− 4.4 × 104/RT). In the high temperature region (598 K to 678 K) a supported cupric oxide species is proposed to react with the carbon support resulting in the formation of cuprous oxide and carbon dioxide. The first order decomposition rate constant for this reaction was evaluated to be kh = 6.92 × 10−2exp(−3.7 × 104/RT).

Thermal behavior and kinetics of crude oils at low heating rates by differential scanning calorimeter
Kök, Mustafa Verşan (2012-04-01)
The objective of this research was to investigate thermal behavior and kinetics of different origin crude oils in limestone matrix by differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) at low heating rates. In DSC experiments, three distinct reaction regions were identified in all of the crude oil + limestone mixtures known as low temperature oxidation (LTO), fuel deposition (FD) and high temperature oxidation (HTO) respectively. Kinetic analysis of the crude oil samples was determined by different models known as AST...
THERMAL ANALYSIS OF CO-FIRING OF OIL SHALE AND BIOMASS FUELS
Ozgur, Emre; Miller, Sharon Falcone; Miller, Bruce G.; Kök, Mustafa Verşan (2012-01-01)
The effect of co-firing of biomass fuels with oil shale on combustion was investigated Thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry were the tools used to perform the investigation. Since the combustion of biomass is highly exothermic, biomass fuels can serve as an appropriate fuel feedstock. Biomass fuels producing much volatile matter and containing less cellulose are good candidates for co-firing with oil shale. The biomass samples used in the study were hazelnut shell, wheat bran, po...
Thermal Analysis of Crude oil lignite mixtures by Differential Scanning Calorimetry
Kök, Mustafa Verşan (Elsevier BV, 1994-04-01)
Thermal characterization of lignite, crude oils and their 10 and 20% mixtures were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (d.s.c.). The calorific value of the lignite increased in mixtures depending on the crude oil type. In pyrolysis runs, temperature ranges where distillation and visbreaking occur were identified for the crude oils studied. The effect of heating rate was also studied, and higher reaction temperatures and higher heat flow rates were observed at d.s.c. peak thermograms with incre...
Thermal degradation of poly(isobornyl acrylate) and its copolymer with poly(methyl methacrylate) via pyrolysis mass spectrometry
Ozlem, Suriye; Aslan-Guerel, Evren; Rossi, Rene M.; Hacaloğlu, Jale (2013-03-01)
In this work, the thermal degradation characteristics of poly(isobornyl acrylate) (PIBA), and its copolymer with PMMA, P(MMA-co-IBA) were investigated via direct pyrolysis mass spectrometry. Thermal degradation behavior of poly(isobornyl methacrylate) (PIBMA) was also studied for a better understanding of thermal degradation mechanism of PIBA. For both PIBA and PIBMA, gamma-H transfer from the isobornyl ring to the carbonyl group was predominantly effective in thermal degradation. As a consequence of evolut...
Thermal degradation of poly(propylene oxide) and polyepichlorohydrin by direct pyrolysis mass spectrometry
Uyar, T; Hacaloğlu, Jale (2002-09-01)
The thermal degradation of poly(propylene oxide), (PPO) and polyepichlorohydrin, (PECH) were studied with the use of direct pyrolysis mass spectrometry. The effects of heating rate and dissociative ionization on fragmentation pattern have also been investigated. It has been determined that PPO degrades via a random cleavage mechanism, the labile C-O bond scissions being preferred, An analogous degradation mechanism can be proposed for PECH. Yet, the elimination of side chains, evolution of HCl and the loss ...
