Abstract
Decay curves of the electric-dipole forbidden decay of the 3s2 3p4 ground configuration3P 1 level in the S-like ions of Ni ( Z=28) and Cu ( Z=29) have been obtained at a heavy-ion storage ring. This completes the earlier measurements on the 1D 2 level in Fe ( Z=26) and the 1S 0 level in Ar ( Z=18). The lifetime evaluation process is discussed in the context of structural changes and predicted branching fraction changes along the S I isoelectronic sequence. The experimental lifetime values agree with the results of several calculations.
