Abstract
Pseudospectral large-eddy simulations (LES) of incompressible magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence are performed with a maximum of 64(3) collocation points. Different gradient- diffusion type subgrid models are evaluated. This is done by comparing the obtained LES results to reference data stemming from high-resolution direct numerical simulations of decaying MHD turbulence with up to 512(3) spectral modes. A newly developed MHD subgrid model, based on the ideal cross-helicity invariant of MHD turbulence, is tested and observed to perform excellently well. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V.
