Sala de aprendizagem ativa André Cruz de Carvalho: o uso de tecnologias digitais no desenvolvimento de novas práticas pedagógicas

Abstract

As universidades, um pouco por todo o mundo, estão a investir em novos espaços de aprendizagem que promovam metodologias ativas e o ensino centrado na aprendizagem do aluno. Estas novas salas de aprendizagem ativa questionam as abordagens tradicionais de ensino e promovem a interação entre alunos e professores na co-construção de conhecimento. Foi com este propósito que a Universidade do Minho criou o espaço de aprendizagem ativa Sala André Cruz de Carvalho (SACC). A dissertação que apresentamos teve como questão de investigação: Em que medida a tecnologia é utilizada na Sala André Cruz de Carvalho? Relativamente aos objetivos do estudo, selecionamos: (i) Caracterizar a SACC como sala de aprendizagem ativa do ponto de vista da tecnologia aí existente; (ii) Identificar de que forma os docentes integram a tecnologia inovadora ao dispor na SACC nos processos de ensino e de aprendizagem; (iii) Averiguar se o facto de os professores lecionarem na SACC potencia o uso de tecnologia em práticas pedagógicas ativas. Para a realização deste estudo efetuamos uma scoping review, tendo pesquisado em seis bases de dados online, da qual resultou o quadro teórico. A opção metodológica seguida foi qualitativa, com um design de estudo de caso, tendo como participantes os professores que mais vezes requisitaram a sala durante o ano letivo 2021/2022 e alunos que também utilizaram o espaço. Os dados foram obtidos por um inquérito de satisfação da experiência da utilização da sala respondido pelos alunos; observação direta estruturada através de uma grelha de observação e grupos focais com os professores. Os resultados permitem concluir que a SACC é uma sala de aula de aprendizagem ativa, uma vez que apresenta todas as características da literatura, nomeadamente, mobiliário flexível e tecnologia inovadora e atualizada. Os resultados também permitem concluir que os professores valorizam a sala de aprendizagem ativa por causa do espaço que permite novas dinâmicas pedagógicas. Os resultados também ajudam a concluir que os professores entrevistados utilizam tecnologias em práticas pedagógicas ativas, mas não especificamente a tecnologia Solstice Active Learning que é única na sala. Estes dados são relevantes para assinalar a importância da sensibilização dos professores para fazerem formação sobre o uso pedagógico deste software único em Portugal. O facto de estarmos a sair de dois anos da pandemia, em que muita tecnologia foi apresentada aos professores, pode justificar o facto dos professores se terem apropriado de muitas tecnologias e não sentirem (ainda) a necessidade de explorar pedagogicamente uma tecnologia que é única em Portugal.

Universities all over the world are investing in new learning spaces that promote active pedagogical practices and teaching centred on student learning. These new active learning rooms question the traditional teaching approaches and promote the interaction between students and teachers in the co construction of knowledge. It was with this purpose that the University of Minho created the active learning space Sala André Cruz de Carvalho (SACC). The dissertation that we present had the following research question: To what extent is technology used in the André Cruz de Carvalho Room? In relation to the objectives of the study, we selected: (i) to characterise the SACC as an active learning room from the point of view of the technology available there; (ii) to identify how teachers integrate the innovative technology available at the SACC in the teaching and learning processes; (iii) to determine whether the fact that teachers teach at the SACC promotes the use of technology in active pedagogical practices. For this study, we conducted a scoping review, having searched six online databases, which resulted in the theoretical framework. The methodological option followed was qualitative, with a case study design. The participants were the teachers who most often requested the room during the 2021/2022 school year and students who also used the space. Data were obtained through a student satisfaction survey on the experience of using the room; direct observation structured through an observation grid; and focus groups with teachers. The results allow the conclusion that the SACC is an active learning classroom since it presents all the characteristics revealed in the literature, namely, flexible furniture and innovative and updated technology. The results also allow us to conclude that teachers value the active learning classroom because of the space that allows new pedagogical dynamics. The results also help to conclude that the teachers interviewed use technologies in active teaching practices, but not specifically the Solstice Active Learning technology which is unique in the room. These data are relevant to point out the importance of raising teachers' awareness to do training on the pedagogical use of this unique software in the room. The fact that we are coming out of two years of pandemic, in which much technology was presented to teachers, justifies the fact that they have appropriated some of these technologies and do not (yet) feel the need to explore pedagogically a technology that is unique in Portugal.
