| Abstract: | This study analyses the lexicographical treatment given to a set of adjectives which, as well as being able to combine with ser and estar, generally take a complement when constructed with estar. After discussing how these adjectives have been described grammatically, we shall analyse the syntactic information that is implicitly and explicitly given in five monolingual Spanish dictionaries. We examine how they show that the adjectives can be combined with ser and estar, and whether or not they can take a complement. We also give other details we regard as being structurally significant. The result of the analysis shows that the dictionaries selected do reflect the phenomenon although the resources used to do so – quite common in printed lexicography – do not provide users with systematic and consistent information about the possibilities of the construction. |
