Abstract
Bu tez çalışması, işlevi değişmiş cezaevlerinin incelenmesi kapsamında ; tarihi yapının mimari özellikleri, mimarı, yapım teknikleri, malzemesi,yeniden işlevlendirme kapsamında yapılan restorasyon çalışmasının yöntemine yönelik incelemeleri içermektedir.
Tez çalışması, giriş bölümü ile birlikte altı bölümden oluşmaktadır.
Birinci bölüm, çalışmanın amacı, kapsam ve yöntemini içermektedir.
İkinci bölümde ceza, cezaevi ve cezaevlerinin tarihsel süreci ele alınarak tanımlamalar yapılmıştır.
Üçüncü bölümde kültür varlıklarının yeniden işlevlendirilmesi ile ilgili temel bilgiler incelenmiştir. Yapıların koruma açısından önemi, yeniden kullanımının yararları ve yeniden kullanımı gerektirecek sebepler maddeler halinde ele alınmış ve bu sebepler açıklanmıştır.
Dördüncü bölümde işlevi değişen cezaevlerine örnek olarak Ulucanlar Cezaevi ve Tarihi Sinop Cezaevi hakkında genel bilgi verilmiştir.
Beşinci bölümde,Sultanahmet Cezaevi örneği incelenmiştir. Sultanahmet Bölgesi'nin konumu, tarihçesine değinilmiştir. Sultanahmet Cezaevi'nin mimari özellikleri, konumu, tarihsel gelişimi, mimari üslubu hakkında bilgiler verilmiştir. Otele dönüştürülen yapının rölöve ve restorasyon projesi üzerinden yapıdaki değişiklikler analiz edilerek, eski ve yeni fotoğraflar ile karşılaştırılması yapılarak mekansal dönüşümleri incelenmiştir.
Altıncı bölümde, Sultanahmet Cezaevi'nin yeni işlevi ile yapının otantikliğini ne kadar koruduğu değerlendirilmektedir. Yeniden kullanımı ile otele çevrilen yapının yeniden kullanım bağlamında işlevinin uygunluğu ele alınarak değerlendirilmiştir. Farklı bir işlev ve mimari özelliğe sahip olan yapının, günümüzün farklı kullanım amaçlarına yönelik dönüştürülebilme amacının ne derecede doğru yürütüldüğünün saptanması amaçlanmaktadır.
İn this thesis, the examination of reconditioning of former prisons were studied. The architecture and construction techniques of the historical buildings, their materials, the form and method of the restoration processes were examined during this study. Moreover, the investigation of howrespectfully protected and converted the old historical structure into today’s new purposes were discussed. The thesis includes six main chapter, together with introduction. In the introduction, the aim, scope and method of the thesis were explained. In the second chapter, the definition of penalty and prisons; additionally the historical process of the prisons were described. In the third chapter, the fundamental information ofreconditioning of the structures were presented. The importance of the protection of the structures and the reasons of reconditioning were specified and these reasons were explained in detail. Sultanahmet Jail were examined, as an example, in chapter four. The chapter starts with the location and history of Sultanahmet region. Then, the location, historical process, architectural properties and style of Sultanahmet Prison were explained. The reconstruction, a hotel project, was studied in respect of surveying and restoration projects by analyzing the differences of new and old structures with the contribution of pictures. Moreover, the same work was also accomplished for Sinop Historical Prison in chapter five. Finally in the last chapter, the new function of the Sultanahmet and Sinop Prison were evaluated and it is discussed on which ratio the authenticity of the buildings were protected. In the context of eligibility functions for the conversions of hotel and museum of these historical jails were also studied. It was aimed how functional and proper were carried out these conversions into today’s new functional structures.
